The Most Common Terpene in Cannabis Strains

The most common terpenes found in cannabis strains include, Limonene, Caryophyllene, Pinene, Mycrene, and Terpinolene. Each of these terpenes produce the different effects that you feel from some of your favorite strains.

Find out how these terpenes affect you when smoking or ingesting cannabis along with which strains they can be found in with the help of Strains Dispensary.

Limonene

Limonene naturally occurs in orange and lemon rind making it a highly aromatic, citrus terpene. Limonene has been known to produce elevated mood and is found in the following popular strains:

  • Wedding Cake
  • Banana OG
  • Purple Hindu Kush

Caryophyllene

This terpene is actually found in black pepper, clove, and cinnamon. Unlike other terpenes that bind with receptors in the nervous system, caryophyllene’s large molecular structure allows it to bind with endocannabinoid receptors giving it powerful pain-relief and anti-inflammatory properties. Common strains that contain caryophyllene include:

  • Pineapple Express
  • Sour Diesel
  • Chemdog
  • Gelato

Pinene

Found primarily in pine needles, Pinene is the most commonly occurring terpene found in nature. It delivers anti-anxiety effects as well as pain relief. Pinene is found in the following strains:

  • Cotton Candy Kush
  • Cannatonic
  • Green Crack

Myrcene

Myrcene is the most prevalent terpene in the cannabis market and it can also be found in hops and lemongrass. The effects of Myrcene have been described as calming and can be found in strains such as:

  • Blue Dream
  • OG Kush
  • Purple Haze

Terpinolene

Like Limonene, Terpinolene is also a citrus terpene but it appears in nutmeg, cumin, and lilac. Not much is known about the effects that it produces when smoked or ingested, however it does have antibacterial and antifungal properties. Common strains include:

  • Orange Cookies
  • Dutch Treat
